Description:

Implementation of the EQUIP competency-based approach in clinical psychology education has demonstrated feasibility and utility in standardizing competence levels among graduate students and addressing curriculum gaps. A cohort of 15 students, 12 faculty, and supervisors from Butabika National Referral Mental Health and Teaching Hospital participated in discussions and interviews, revealing three key themes. First, an extended training period of about 15 hours was crucial for increasing educators’ confidence. Second, role-play proved essential in turning initial apprehension into constructive learning experiences. Lastly, feedback was highlighted as vital for building self-assuredness and refining skills. The study calls for further longitudinal research to assess sustained use of EQUIP resources and their long-term impact on competency-based training in clinical psychology education.
