Description:

The International Study of Discrimination and Stigma Outcomes (INDIGO) Partnership is a multi-country research initiative focused on reducing mental health stigma across seven sites in five low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), including India. Using the Ecological Validity Model (EVM), stigma reduction interventions were adapted culturally and contextually at a site in north India from March 2022 to August 2023. Six EVM dimensions—language, persons, metaphors, content, methods, and context—were adapted, while concepts and goals remained unchanged. The findings suggest that stigma reduction strategies grounded in cultural adaptations are more likely to be accepted by stakeholders and yield effective outcomes.
