Dr. Chynere Best Honored with 2026 GW Medicine Pillar Award

We are thrilled to announce that Dr. Chynere Best, Research Scientist at the GW Center for Global Mental Health, has been selected as a recipient of the prestigious 2026 GW Medicine Pillar Award!
The GW Medicine Pillar Award recognizes faculty and staff at the School of Medicine and Health Sciences (SMHS) and Medical Faculty Associates (MFA) who exemplify the pillars of GW's academic medical enterprise. This year, Dr. Best was nominated by colleagues and selected as one of just 16 award winners across the entire institution.

Originally from Trinidad and Tobago, Dr. Best serves as the project lead for RECOUP-NY (Restoring Mental Health Through Community-Based Psychological Services in NYC)—an R01 cluster-randomized clinical trial evaluating the efficacy and implementation of Problem Management Plus, a task-sharing intervention for mild-to-moderate distress delivered by community workers in New York City community-based organizations.
Her groundbreaking work on RECOUP-NY exemplifies the Center's commitment to bringing evidence-based mental health interventions to underserved communities, bridging the gap between global mental health research and local impact right here in the United States.
