Problem Management Plus (PM+) Training
An Evidence-Based Approach to Scalable Mental Health Care
Developed by the World Health Organization, PM+ is a five-session, evidence-based intervention designed to help individuals experiencing mild to moderate psychological distress.
Grounded in core cognitive-behavioral strategies, PM+ can be delivered both in-person and remotely by trained non-specialists, making it a scalable solution for diverse settings.
During this week-long training, you’ll gain a comprehensive understanding of the PM+ model, learn how to identify individuals who may benefit from the intervention, and develop the skills necessary to deliver it effectively.
Community-Initiated Care (CIC) for Psychological Support
Where is CIC delivered, and who benefits?

CIC is delivered in community-based organizations (CBOs) offering services like housing, job training, and immigration support.

It supports individuals facing stressful transitions, such as housing or job loss, immigration, living alone, or community reentry after incarceration.
Who delivers CIC?

Trainings are given to CBO staff who have regular client interactions and a good understanding of client needs.

The CBO staff learn to recognize clients in distress and provide them with brief psychological support, such as the 5-session Problem Management Plus (PM+) intervention.

Most clients are supported within the CBO. Those with higher mental health needs, such as suicidality, are referred to specialist services through a warm hand-off.
How is CIC delivered?

Trained CBO staff identify clients in psychological distress.

PM+ is integrated into regular social service sessions.

Specialists assess when CBO staff have the competency to safely deliver CIC with ongoing supervision.
